Aurora is a privacy first transcription app. It is designed so that your audio and transcripts stay on your devices by default and are processed using on device technologies.
This Privacy Policy explains what data Aurora processes, how it is used, and what choices you have.
1. Who we are
App name: Aurora
Developer / Publisher: The Code Lab by Leandro Piccione
Contact email: [email protected]
Registered address: Ul. Świeradowska 47, 02-662 Warszawa, Poland
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us at [email protected].
2. What Aurora does
Aurora lets you:
Record audio (for example meetings, lectures, interviews, or voice notes)
Upload audio files from other applications
Transcribe that audio into text
Organize, search, and review past sessions
Optionally sync data across your Apple devices using iCloud (if enabled)
The app is built so that all the computation runs on your device using local models, not on our or external servers.
3. Data we do not collect
By design:
We do not receive your raw audio.
We do not receive your transcripts or any content of your conversations.
We do not sell your data to third parties.
We do not use third party advertising SDKs.
Any audio and transcription content is stored on your devices and, if you choose, in your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud contents.
4. Data that may be processed
Aurora processes the following categories of data.
4.1. Audio and transcripts
What:
Audio you record with the app
Transcriptions generated from that audio
Session metadata (time, duration, labels you assign, device info)
Where:
Stored locally on your device, and optionally in your iCloud account if you enable iCloud sync in system settings or app settings.
Why:
To provide the core functionality of the app: recording, transcription, and review.
We do not receive this data on our servers.
4.2. Diagnostic and analytics data
To keep the app stable and understand basic usage patterns, Aurora may use:
Apple’s built in crash reports and diagnostics
Optional in app analytics or error reporting tools (for example to see which features are used and where errors happen)
What may be collected:
Device model, OS version, app version
General usage events (for example which screen is opened)
Crash reports and error messages
We do not use analytics to build behavioral profiles or sell this data.
If we integrate a specific analytics or error reporting service, we will list it here explicitly and link its privacy policy.
4.3. Purchase and subscription data
If Aurora offers paid features, purchases may be handled by:
Apple App Store in app purchases
A subscription management service such as RevenueCat (only if actually integrated)
We can see limited information such as:
That a purchase or subscription is active
The product identifier and platform
Aggregated revenue reports
We do not see your full payment details such as card numbers or bank accounts. Those are processed by Apple or the payment provider.
5. On device processing
Aurora performs transcription using models that run locally on your device.
Audio is fed to the model on your device.
The transcription is generated on your device.
By default, audio and text do not leave the device except through services you explicitly use (for example iCloud, manual exports, or sharing).
If we ever add a cloud based feature that processes your content on our servers, we will clearly explain it in the app and update this Privacy Policy before you use it.
6. Storage, sync, and retention
6.1. Local storage
By default, audio recordings and transcripts are stored locally on your device. You can:
Delete individual sessions inside the app
Remove the app, which will remove its local data from that device
6.2. iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud for Aurora:
Audio and transcripts may be stored in your private iCloud container so they can sync across your Apple devices.
Apple operates iCloud as the data processor. We do not have access to your personal iCloud contents.
You can control iCloud usage for Aurora in your device system settings.
6.3. Retention
We keep:
Local data and iCloud data until you delete it or uninstall the app
Diagnostic data and crash logs only as long as necessary for debugging and improving the app, following the retention periods of the services used
7. Third party services
Aurora may rely on the following services:
Apple App Store and iCloud For distribution, purchases, and optional sync.
RevenueCat For subscription and purchase management.
mixpanel Aggregated usage analytics.
Each service processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy. Where required by law, we enter appropriate data processing agreements with these providers.
Before releasing the app, replace this section with the exact services you actually use and include links to their policies.
8. Legal basis for processing (EU / EEA users)
If you are in the European Economic Area, our legal bases under the GDPR may include:
Performance of a contract: Processing that is necessary to provide the app and its features (recording, transcription, sync, purchases).
Legitimate interests: Processing that is necessary to keep the app secure and reliable, such as crash reports and basic usage metrics, balanced against your rights.
Consent: For optional features or analytics that are not strictly necessary, where we request your consent.
You can withdraw consent at any time in the app or by contacting us.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
Access the data about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion in certain circumstances
Object to certain types of processing
Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority
Because Aurora is designed to store most data locally on your device, many of these rights are exercised directly by you by:
Deleting recordings and transcripts
Uninstalling the app
Managing iCloud data through your Apple ID settings
For anything that involves data we control (for example diagnostics tied to a support request), contact us at [email protected].
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If the changes are significant, we will notify you inside the app or through other appropriate channels.
The “Last updated” date at the top always shows the current version.
If you continue using Aurora after an update, you agree to the updated policy.
